GOP Congress, not Joe Biden, ended internet access program

The April 17 letter to the editor “Fund internet service instead of ‘newcomers'” is wrong to blame President Joe Biden’s administration for potential expiration of the Affordable Connectivity Program, which provides internet access for lower-income families.

The program would not have existed at all without Biden’s amazing accomplishment in getting the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed in 2021, despite the most divisive Congress in modern history.

The program will indeed expire this month. But it is Congress, not Biden, that is responsible for authorizing renewal. Blame for any such failure should fall on the “make America great again” clowns in Congress, who have no interest in actually governing.

The letter’s complaints about illegal immigration are also misplaced, because MAGA Republicans do not want to solve the problem, at least not while a Democrat is president. Earlier this year the Senate was considering one of the strongest border security bills in decades, strongly favored by conservatives. But Republicans killed it when their cult leader, former President Donald Trump, told them he did not want Biden to “win” on the issue.

Trump talks a big game, but it is narcissistic bluster. President Biden and the Democrats actually govern and gets things done.
