Google’s testing an AI chatbot that could be your personal life coach

Are you feeling lost and unsure of what to do next? Well, fret not because Google is testing a groundbreaking AI chatbot that could be the answer to all your problems. Imagine having a wise companion just a chat away!

Google’s DeepMind team is currently developing a generative AI chatbot, similar to Bard and ChatGPT, that has the potential to provide users with invaluable life lessons and guidance. This is just one of the many tasks that Google is working on, with at least 21 different types of tasks in the pipeline. From personal matters to professional endeavors like planning, tutoring, and idea generation, Google aims to incorporate these capabilities into the chatbot.
To ensure the chatbot’s ability to answer intimate queries, Google has partnered with Scale AI, a contractor with a team of over 100 experts holding doctorates in various fields.

Now, you may be wondering about the type of questions this chatbot can tackle. Well, imagine asking, “I have a close friend who is getting married soon. Unfortunately, I am currently unemployed and cannot afford to attend her destination wedding. How do I break the news to her?” Google envisions the chatbot providing users with tailored recommendations and suggestions based on their unique circumstances. Moreover, the chatbot’s tutoring capability can help users improve their skills in various areas, such as becoming a better runner. Additionally, the planning feature aims to assist users in effortlessly creating personalized financial budgets, meal plans, and workout routines.
Unlike OpenAI’s Bard, Google is taking a cautious approach. Google’s Bard help pages explicitly advise against relying on the chatbot for professional advice, such as medical, legal, or financial matters.
In December, Google’s A.I. Safety experts warned about the potential negative effects of relying too heavily on AI for life advice. They emphasized the impact it could have on users’ health, well-being, and sense of control. They also cautioned that some users might mistakenly attribute human-like consciousness to the technology if they become overly dependent on it.
Collaboration with various partners is an essential aspect of Google’s development process to ensure the creation of secure and valuable technology, as stated by a representative from DeepMind. The spokesperson highlights that multiple evaluations are currently ongoing, and individual instances of evaluation data may not accurately depict the company’s product roadmap.
Therefore, it appears that these innovative tools are still in the testing phase and may not be released to the public just yet.
