Google Wallet to allow Android users to check-in for flights through RCS and save Boarding Passes

Google aims to simplify the process of flying. Customers using a Pixel 3 or a newer version can take a screenshot of their boarding pass and have it added to Google Pay. By tapping on Save > View boarding pass, the pass will be accessible in the Google Pay app offline. At the Google I/O conference, the company announced that Android users could use RCS chat on the Messages by Google app to add their boarding pass to Google Wallet. This would occur when an airline sends an Android user a message via RCS. The RCS message will allow the user to complete the check-in process and only works with airlines that support the feature.

To use the Generic Pass API to add boarding passes, Android users can employ advanced messaging features through RCS messages. The developer can use the API to enable Google Wallet with other cards, such as auto insurance, gym membership, and parking. For a more secure version, the Generic Private Pass API can store the virtual wallet with private information, such as health insurance and identification cards. To provide better security, Google is adding support for rotating barcodes that can protect the user from fraud. For validation, the receiving app must match the email address of the issuer. This can prevent fraud, reselling, and inappropriate transfers.

If the Messages by Google app is not available, customers can obtain the app and check-in through RCS by tapping on this link.
