Google Pixel Watch 2 Could Launch in India; Features, Specifications Tipped

The highly anticipated Google Pixel Watch 2 is set to make its debut as the successor to the first-generation Pixel Watch, released in October 2022. The original Pixel Watch boasted a 1.2-inch AMOLED touch display with 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and the Exynos 9110 SoC. It also promised a battery life of up to 24 hours. However, the Pixel Watch 2 is expected to bring significant upgrades in terms of its SoC and battery performance. A recent report suggests that the upcoming Google wearable will arrive with exciting enhancements and hints at an imminent release in India.

According to a report by Android Authority, the Pixel Watch 2 is likely being developed under the codenames ‘Eos’ and ‘Aurora,’ representing the LTE and Wi-Fi variants respectively. The Pixel Watch 2 lineup is expected to offer three different models, identified by the model numbers G4TSL, GC3G8, and GD2WG. Interestingly, the report also suggests that these models will be launching in India, as the country’s regulatory e-labels listed the BIS certification.

Furthermore, it is believed that the Google Pixel Watch 2 will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 SoC, a notable upgrade from the Exynos 9110 chipset found in its predecessor. Previous leaks and rumors have also hinted at these hardware improvements.

The Snapdragon W5 chip reportedly utilizes the same Samsung 4nm process as many 2021 and 2022 smartphone chips. This will result in a significant efficiency boost compared to the previous chip. The new chip is expected to support low-power states such as Deep Sleep and Hibernation, ultimately leading to a longer battery life for the Pixel Watch 2.

The upcoming model is likely to feature a 1.2-inch round OLED display with a resolution of 384 x 384 pixels, along with noticeable bezels. However, instead of the BOE panel used in the Pixel Watch, the Pixel Watch 2 is expected to adopt screens sourced from Samsung Display, promising improved display quality.

In terms of connectivity, the Pixel Watch 2 will reportedly support ultrawide-band (UWB), a popular option alongside Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC. UWB enables the transmission and reception of data over short distances using pulse-based radio waves, allowing devices to be located using one another. Additionally, Google is said to be working on enhancing its Find My Device network, featuring functionalities similar to Apple’s AirTag. This feature can potentially serve as a Digital Car Key or a media playback alternative when paired with a Pixel tablet or a Google Nest device.

The Pixel Watch 2 is expected to offer a slight improvement in battery performance with a slightly larger 306mAh battery, compared to the 294mAh battery found in the 2022 model. The Pixel Watch 2 will likely run on Wear OS 4 based on Android 13 out-of-the-box, providing users with an updated software experience.
