Are you a daily user of the Google News app on Android or iOS? In a recent update, Google is introducing new features to enhance your overall news experience. According to 9to5Google, the “Following” tab currently only offers suggestions for the user to follow, but with the update, as many as three stories with the name of the publication and an image from the article will appear in the “Following” tab. This update will allow users to add topics of interest, specific sources, and certain locations for more tailored news content.
Google’s goal is to surface content that aligns with the user’s interests and preferences. The algorithm used for this feature is similar to the algorithm used for Google News, as per the company. This feature will roll out worldwide to Android users soon and to iOS users later this year.
Google’s News Showcase licensing program is also now available in the US and, as per the company, will pay $1 billion to over 700 news organizations for access to limited free user content that is typically paywalled. Lastly, Subscribe with Google is being rebranded as Reader Revenue Manage, allowing users to subscribe to paid content using their Google account, making it even easier for users to stay informed with their preferred content.
