Google Antitrust: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella to testify in Google antitrust trial

Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella is likely to testify on Monday, October 2, as a witness for the US Justice Department in the US government’s antitrust case against Google. This has been revealed by a government filing on the docket of the court fight against Alphabet’s Google.
The government is likely to ask CEO Nadella about Microsoft’s efforts to expand the reach of Edge and Bing, company’s browser and search engine. The questions may focus on the obstacles, if any, posed by Google’s dominance in these fields. Google will likely argue that the better quality of its products are the reason for its success rather than illegal behavior.
Some other Microsoft executives too have testified in the ongoing trial. Jonathan Tinter, a Microsoft vice president, testified at the Justice Department’s antitrust trial this week in the US District Court in Washington.
Tinter said that Microsoft Bing was not the default installed in any Android or Apple smartphone sold in the US in the past decade, even though Microsoft would at times offer to give more than 100% of revenue — or more –to its partner.
What is the Google vs US government case
The US Department of Justice (DoJ) accuses Google of paying $10 billion annually to wireless carriers and smartphone makers to ensure that Google search is the default on their devices. The government argues Google has abused its monopoly in search and some aspects of search advertising. The clout in search makes Google a heavy hitter in the lucrative advertising market, boosting its profits. Apple is central to this case.
