Gold coins worth a fortune discovered in a breathtaking cache within a Kentucky cornfield

A remarkable discovery has been made in a Kentucky cornfield – more than 700 gold coins dating back to the US Civil War are now up for sale, with expectations of reaping millions in profits.

A treasure trove of over 700 gold coins, believed to have originated from the US Civil War era, has been unearthed in a cornfield located in Kentucky. This incredible find is now being put up for sale and is anticipated to generate substantial financial gains.

Dubbed the “Great Kentucky Hoard,” this valuable cache was discovered earlier this year on a farm in the Bluegrass State. Both the coin grading firm and the company responsible for selling the coins have verified the authenticity of the collection. However, the exact location of the discovery and the identity of the finder remain undisclosed.

In a video released by GovMint.com, the platform handling the sale, the unidentified individual can be seen exclaiming “this is the most insane thing ever” as they unearth the coins from the soil. The coins, dated between 1840 and 1863, consist of $1 Gold Indians, $10 Gold Libertys, and $20 Gold Libertys.

Among the remarkable pieces in this collection are 18 extremely rare $20 Gold Libertys minted in Philadelphia in 1863. GovMint.com reveals that these particular coins can fetch six-figure sums from collectors.

Jeff Garrett, a renowned rare coin dealer, emphasized the significance of this discovery, stating, “The stunning number of over 700 gold dollars represents a virtual time capsule of Civil War-era coinage.” His statement highlights the historical value encapsulated within these coins.

Kentucky held a neutral stance during the Civil War, which raged between the slave-holding South and the Union. However, the state was inevitably affected by the conflict’s devastating consequences. Numismatic Guaranty Company, responsible for certifying the coins, suggests that the Great Kentucky Hoard might have been a result of the war, with the coins lost and hidden for over 150 years.
