Giant Dog Shocks Internet in Video Seen 5M Times: ‘Who’s Horse Is That?’

A social media video of a giant dog, who’s only 8-and-a-half months old, playing with his owner has left TikTok users astonished.

The viral TikTok video, which has been viewed more than 5 million times since it was first shared to the social media platform on December 3, captured the enormous dog named Ivar leaping with excitement at his owner. His owner, who manages the TikTok account @the_ivar1, shared in a different post that the large pup is a Tibetan Mastiff.

Newsweek reached out to @the_ivar1 for comment via TikTok.

According to PetMD, the ancient breed originates from its namesake Tibet, with written records that date back to 1100 BCE baring evidence of the breed’s existence all those years ago. Dogs of the breed are typically large and can weigh anywhere between 70 and 100 pounds, with what the animal health site describes as having “muscular builds” and “broad heads.”

“The Tibetan Mastiff has a dense, two-layer hair coat consisting of a thick, coarse top coat and a wooly soft undercoat. They are considered a large dog breed, weighing anywhere between 70-150 pounds with an alert stance, a giant and broad head,” PetMD writes on its website.

The Tibetan Mastiff is known to be aloof and alert, making it an excellent guard dog and in some cases a loyal family dog too. The breed live, on average, to between 10 and 12 years old, but their large size and genetic makeup leaves them predisposed to certain health problems.

One thing that Tibetan Mastiff owners need to unfortunately watch out for is hip dysplasia, which PetMD describes as being a painful condition where the hip joint doesn’t function properly.

“While there is a genetic predisposition to this condition, lifestyle habits and certain factors can possibly contribute to the development of hip dysplasia, including your Tibetan Mastiff’s growth rate, muscle mass, diet, and exercise,” PetMD adds on its website.
