There are no plans to remaster Final Fantasy Tactics, although the game was part of the massive GeForce NOW leak that proved to be extremely on point regarding Square Enix games.
On X/Twitter, the game’s director Yasumi Matsuno answered a fan question yesterday, saying that there are no plans to remaster the excellent tactical turn-based game. Earlier today, however, he commented on the matter again, saying that even if one has information, it is not possible to divulge it until the official announcement.

Concerning a possible Final Fantasy Tactics remaster. Could you add a progression system to the Ultima spell? The idea is that if you use it enough times, you learn and can use the upgraded versions Altima uses.— Dragonotdarkflame (@DotDFKx18) November 29, 2023
Yes. mum. I agree with you.
Even if you have information, you can’t say anything unless there is an official announcement.
You think so too, don’t you? https://t.co/1T8GQFTcJH— 松野泰己🐈⬛ (@YasumiMatsuno) December 1, 2023
Judging from today’s statement, the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster may indeed be real. Even not counting the GeForce NOW leak, there have been indications that the game is in the works, as the development team was said to be busy with an undisclosed project earlier this year. In addition, it seems like the game was playstested back in late 2021, so it has kind of become one of the worst-kept gaming secrets of the past few years, alongside the Final Fantasy IX remake.
While waiting for the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster, fans of the genre and Yasumi Matsuno’s works can enjoy Tactics Ogre: Reborn, the remake of the classic game launched last year on PC and consoles. You can learn more about it by checking out my review.
