February 24th Confirmed as Release Date for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty’s Second Playable Demo

A playable demo of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, the highly anticipated fantasy souls-like game developed by Team Ninja, will be available later this month. According to a tweet from the developer, players can enjoy a snippet of the game for free starting February 24. This is the second demo for the game, and any progress made in this version will carry over to the full purchase on all platforms. As an added bonus, players who complete the demo will receive the “Crouching Dragon Helmet” DLC in the final game. However, be aware that these games, which are the successors to Nioh, are known for their challenging difficulty that will test your skills. Luckily, there are no time limitations on how long you can play the demo.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty immerses you in a dark and fantastical version of Later Han Dynasty China, plagued by demonic monsters that threaten to bring the realm to its knees. As a nameless militia soldier, you are thrust into the heart of chaos, tasked with defeating deadly creatures and enemy footsoldiers in intense melee combat. Just like in the Nioh series, mastering the art of parrying and deflecting attacks is crucial, as it opens up opportunities for devastating counter-attacks. Fans of FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will find similarities in the combat mechanics, where simply blocking enemy attacks leads to prolonged battles.

The 41 Most Anticipated Games of 2023

Each character’s moveset in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is linked to an elemental attack, determined by the chosen combat style or “phase” early in the game. Fire represents lethal attacks, water is for stealth, earth focuses on defense, wood provides support, and metal is associated with debuffs. Your phase selection assigns unique stats, magic, equipment, and a Divine Beast that aids you in combat through passive perks. Team Ninja has introduced a new “Morale” system, which appears as a difficulty level floating above enemies’ heads, helping you decide whether to engage or retreat. Higher numbers indicate stronger enemies, including your character. However, if you die, the enemy will steal your morale, increasing their power.

To assist newcomers, the game world is filled with flagposts that function as bonfires or checkpoints, allowing you to level up your character and reset any ailments. Team Ninja recently confirmed that players will have the ability to summon online NPCs or warriors to aid in boss battles using Tiger Seals found throughout the Three Kingdoms. Although the AI of these summoned characters may not be exceptional, they can draw enemy attention while you attack from a blind spot.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is set to release on March 3 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have the opportunity to play the game for free on launch day.
