Extended Character Limit for Tweets Now Available to Twitter Blue Subscribers

When Elon Musk took control of Twitter, he announced that the platform would introduce a way for users to monetize their written content. As a result, Twitter launched the Blue subscription, which offered various benefits, including the ability to post longer tweets with a character limit of 4,000 in February. The limit was then extended to 10,000 characters in April, and now, Twitter is increasing it for the third time.
In the latest update, Twitter has raised the character count for tweets to 25,000, but this extended limit is only available to paid users. Twitter engineer Prachi Poddar tweeted, “We have increased the NoteTweet (formerly known as longform Tweet) limit from 10k to 25k characters. Enjoy longer NoteTweets and happy tweeting!” While Poddar made this announcement last week, Twitter updated the Twitter Blue information page with the new character limit this week.
In comparison to its competitors, such as Mastodon with a character limit of 500 and Bluesky, backed by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, with a limit of 300 characters, Twitter’s new limit provides users with significantly more space to express themselves.
Twitter Blue perks:
In addition to the increased character limit for tweets, Twitter’s Blue subscription offers various other perks to its subscribers.
These perks include the Edit Tweet feature, which grants users a one-hour window to make limited changes to their published tweets. It also includes a reduction of approximately 50% in ads displayed in the For You and Following timelines, as well as prioritized rankings in conversations and search.
Furthermore, Blue subscribers have the ability to format text by bolding and italicizing it in their tweets on the web. They can also undo a tweet after sending it and have the option to upload longer videos of up to 2 hours in length and a file size of up to 8GB (1080p) on twitter.com and Twitter for iOS only. However, it should be noted that this feature has been misused in the past, with users uploading full-length movies on the platform.
