Exciting Updates Revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2023: A Teaser for Ahsoka, Daisy Ridley Makes a Return, Season 2 Release Window for Andor, and Much More!

Star Wars Celebration 2023, which took place in London on April 7, was filled with a plethora of surprises from the beloved galaxy far, far away crafted by Lucasfilm. The event, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi, unveiled exciting details about upcoming TV shows and movies. Attendees were treated to exclusive first looks at Star Wars: The Acolyte and Andor season 2, as well as a teaser for the highly anticipated limited series Ahsoka starring Rosario Dawson.

One of the major highlights of the event was the announcement of three new theatrical Star Wars movies. The first film will see Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey Skywalker in a project long in development. Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (known for her work on Ms. Marvel), this film takes place 15 years after the events of The Rise of the Skywalker, focusing on Rey’s journey to build a new Jedi Order. The script for this highly anticipated film passed hands from Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson to Steven Knight (of Peaky Blinders fame).

Dave Filoni, the co-creator of The Mandalorian, is at the helm of the second Star Wars film, set in the same timeline as the popular Disney+ series. Continuing the interconnected storytelling approach, Filoni’s film will delve into the New Republic. As for the third film, James Mangold (known for directing Logan) is taking audiences back 25,000 years before the sequels to explore the origins of the Jedi.

While no release dates have been announced, fans were also informed about the ongoing development of Taika Waititi’s standalone Star Wars film. The project, currently in the hands of Waititi alone, is progressing steadily.

Ahsoka, the much-anticipated series centered around the titular Jedi portrayed by Rosario Dawson, finally received a teaser trailer at Star Wars Celebration 2023. The trailer emphasized Ahsoka’s next adventure, including her anticipation of Admiral Thrawn’s return. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Natasha Liu Bordizzo join the cast as prominent characters from Star Wars: Rebels. Ahsoka is set to premiere on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar in August.

The event also offered attendees an exclusive first look at the second and final season of Andor, the creation of Tony Gilroy. While no information about the release of the footage was provided, Gilroy did confirm that the show is targeting an August 2024 release window.

In addition to the announcements related to movies and TV shows, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the upcoming video game directed by Stig Asmussen, revealed that the iconic city-covered planet Coruscant would be a playable location. Although it won’t be entirely open-world, the game promises a Metroidvania-style approach with Coruscant as one of its destinations.

Star Wars Celebration 2023 was truly a galactic gathering filled with exciting surprises and updates that left fans eagerly anticipating the future of the Star Wars franchise.
