Estimates for the Duration of Final Fantasy 16: Main Quests and Completionist Playthroughs

Introducing the highly anticipated and exclusive PlayStation 5 game, Final Fantasy XVI. This action-packed RPG takes a fresh approach to the beloved franchise. While previous Final Fantasy games have been known for their lengthy gameplay and immersive narratives, FFXVI offers a more streamlined experience with a focus on action and a linear structure. This means that the game can be completed in a shorter amount of time, depending on your playstyle. Whether you choose to follow the main story quests, explore sidequests, or dive into optional content, we’ll break down how long it will take you to finish FFXVI.

If you stick strictly to the main quests, indicated by red quest icons, you can expect to complete the game in approximately 30 hours. FFXVI delivers a cinematic experience with quests that blend seamlessly with intense dungeons, boss fights, and epic battles against powerful Eikons. These elements take time to fully experience and enjoy.

However, sidequests play an important role in the Final Fantasy experience, and FFXVI offers plenty of these quests between major story beats. Throughout the game, you’ll encounter green quest markers in The Hideaway (your homebase) and various open regions. These sidequests provide additional gameplay features, such as unlocking the Chocobo mount. If you choose to complete all sidequests alongside the main story, you can expect the game to take roughly 45 to 50 hours to finish.

Additionally, there’s the Hunt Board, which acts as a bounty list for optional bosses. These bosses can be found in the open hub areas of the game. While some are tied to specific sidequests, most are designed to provide a challenging combat experience, along with valuable XP and crafting materials. If you choose to take on all the Hunt Board targets, as I did during my review, you can add a few extra hours to your playtime, bringing the total to about 50 to 55 hours.

FFXVI also offers combat-only challenges, such as Arcade Mode, where you can test your skills in graded runs of main story dungeons. Additionally, there are Chronolith battles, which are wave-based fights that utilize specific Eikons. Depending on your skill level and desire to achieve high scores, these challenges can add several extra hours of gameplay. Furthermore, the game features a New Game+ mode, which allows you to replay the main story with tougher enemies, additional fights, and new combat mechanics. This mode alone can add dozens of hours to your playtime. To fully experience everything FFXVI has to offer, including all features and content, you can expect to spend upwards of 80 hours playing the game.
