Enhanced Intelligent Services Setting Disabled Following Backlash on Realme 11 Pro 5G and Realme 11 Pro+ 5G Update

The Realme 11 Pro series, which includes the Realme 11 Pro 5G and Realme 11 Pro+ 5G, is receiving a software update that disables a privacy setting that was previously enabled by default on the smartphones. This update comes in response to recent public backlash and the potential for a government investigation into the setting for a feature on smartphones running the Realme UI 4.0 interface. The setting claimed to enhance the user experience by learning how the device was used to optimize its functions.

Realme has started rolling out the RMX3771_13.1.0.524 (EX01) update for the Realme 11 Pro 5G and the RMX3741_13.1.0.524 (EX01) update for the Realme 11 Pro+ 5G. These updates not only optimize system stability and power consumption when using the camera but also disable the Enhanced Intelligent Services feature, which will now be turned off by default. This information is confirmed by the official changelog for both smartphones.

It’s important to note that after installing the latest software version, the description of the controversial Enhanced Intelligent Services feature has also been updated. The setting previously claimed to collect users’ calendar events, app usage statistics, call logs, and text messages.

However, with the new update, the toggle for Enhanced Intelligent Services is disabled by default. The updated description states that the feature will obtain Location permission to process location information and app usage statistics, which will be done locally on the device. It is mentioned that this is necessary to provide the Optimized charging feature on the smartphones.

The discovery of this setting occurred during a video review of the smartphone on a YouTube channel and was later shared on Twitter. Minister of State for Information Technology and Electronics, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, stated that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) would test and evaluate the claims made by the user.

Realme initially denied the collection of data and explained that the feature was designed to optimize performance for better battery life and temperature performance. The company clarified that despite the feature’s description, the system did not collect data on SMS, calls, and schedules. Realme also assured users that any processed data was encrypted and stored on the device, not transmitted to the cloud.

After installing the update, users can verify that the Enhanced Intelligent Services setting is disabled by default by navigating to Settings > Additional Settings > System Services > Enhanced Intelligent Services. Gadgets 360 has confirmed that the toggle is indeed off by default, and the revised description no longer mentions the collection of calendar events and statistics related to calls and text messages for the Realme 11 Pro series.

In conclusion, Realme has taken prompt action to address the concerns raised by disabling the controversial privacy setting and updating the description of the feature. This software update ensures that users have more control over their privacy settings and provides transparency regarding the data collection process.
