Here’s what the CEO has to say
It’s an incredibly rare opportunity, in both life and business, to get a second chance to make a big impression. Twitter made a huge impact and revolutionized the way we communicate. Now, with X, we will go even further and transform the global town square.
X represents the future state of unlimited interactivity, encompassing audio, video, messaging, payments/banking, and creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we have yet to fully imagine.
For years, fans and critics alike have pushed Twitter to dream bigger, innovate faster, and fulfill our immense potential. X will not only do that, but also exceed expectations. We have already begun to see X take shape in the past 8 months with our rapid feature launches, and we are just getting started.
There are absolutely no limits to this transformation. X will be the platform that can deliver everything. Elon Musk, Linda Yaccarino, and our teams are excited to work with our partners and bring X to the world.
Twitter HQ building is lit with “X”
Yaccarino and Musk shared separate images of the HQ building in San Francisco, which was illuminated with the new logo projected onto it. X.com now redirects to twitter.com, and the Twitter handle has been changed to X.
The changes at the company are already in progress, although the “Bird” logo can still be seen in some places at the time of writing. When YouTuber Marques Brownlee referred to the platform as Twitter, Musk replied, “Not for long.”
There is no official announcement yet on what tweets will be called after the rebranding. Brownlee commented, “Old habits die hard. Aren’t these still called tweets?”
Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey also welcomed the change, tweeting, “keep calm and just x through it.”
Reportedly, Musk sent an email to Twitter employees last night, informing them of the company’s transition to X and stating that it would be his last email from a Twitter address. It is worth noting that X falls under the technology company X Corp.
