Efforts to bring high-speed internet to King William continue to move forward – Daily Press

KING WILLIAM — The internet provider Breezeline has started to connect homes in rural King William County to high-speed broadband in a project expected to be completed in the summer of 2025.

The company said it connected its first King William customers last week, according to a news release. Breezeline has promised to make fiber available to 1,500 homes and businesses by August 2025.

Breezeline was awarded a contract to connect homes in the central part of the county. All Points Broadband is working on a project in the northwestern and southeastern parts of the county.

The $17.7 million All Points Broadband initiative was expected to deliver high-speed internet to 2,236 currently unserved locations in King William by February under the terms of grant applications. The completion date has slipped to the third quarter of this year.

Breezeline is laying 132 miles of fiber in King William County. The initiative will enable homes and businesses in King William County to access Fiber-to-the-Home technology, or FTTH, with gigabit-speed internet for the very first time.

“The technology provides a powerful online experience for users with exceptional download and upload speeds, which is ideal for video conferencing, distance learning, telemedicine, and gaming,” Breezeline stated in its release.

Breezeline has also launched “Stream TV,” a new cloud-based service that integrates live TV, DVR, on-demand and popular streaming apps including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Max and Disney+ for viewing on TV and mobile devices, the company stated.

The new fiber initiative is funded by Breezeline and a subsidy from the Federal Communication Commission’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund, which provides high-speed broadband to remote, unserved, and underserved rural communities across the country.

Breezeline is also working to extend internet connectivity to nearly 7,500 unserved homes and businesses in Caroline County and Essex County through the Virginia Telecommunication Initiative and the rural opportunity fund, with contributions from Breezeline and the counties. The company supplied broadband to over 1,400 homes and businesses in Mathews, Caroline, Lancaster and Middlesex counties via partnerships last year.
