Display specifications for Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro leaked by Google insider

A reliable source within Google has shared exclusive information with Android Authority regarding the displays for the upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones. While some of the leaked details confirm previous speculations from the trusted tipster Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), there are also intriguing new revelations about these highly anticipated 2023 Pixel devices. Let’s start with the Pixel 8 and then delve into the premium Pixel 8 Pro.

As previously indicated by Young, Google will be reducing the size of the Pixel 8 display from 6.31 inches (used on the Pixel 7) to 6.17 inches for the upcoming model. Despite this size reduction, the screen resolution will remain at 1080 x 2400 FHD+. However, the refresh rate will be upgraded from 90Hz to 120Hz, and the brightness with HDR content will increase from a peak of 1000 nits to an impressive 1400 nits. The smaller display size will actually result in a higher number of pixels per inch (PPI), increasing from 417 to 427.

Moving on to the Pixel 8 Pro, there will be a significant change in the screen design. Say goodbye to the curved display and welcome a flat display for the Pixel 8 Pro. This particular feature has sparked debate among Google users, with a preference for a flat display rather than the curved one found on the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro. If this leak is accurate, Google has heeded the majority’s opinion.

Similar to the Pixel 8, the Pixel 8 Pro’s display size will undergo a small reduction from 6.71 inches to 6.70 inches. However, the surprise lies in the drop of resolution from QHD+ 1440 x 3120 (Pixel 7 Pro) to 1334 x 2992 on the Pixel 8 Pro. Consequently, the PPI will decrease from 512 to 490, although most users will find this difference unnoticeable. HDR content will be supported at a peak brightness of 1600 nits, an improvement from the previous model’s 1000 nits.

Furthermore, the Pixel 8 Pro will continue to offer a 120Hz refresh rate. However, unlike the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro, its screen will be capable of smoothly redrawing between 60 and 120 times per second. This dynamic refresh rate will enhance the display’s ability to match the content being shown, resulting in a more seamless visual experience. It is worth noting that the Pixel 8 will have a different refresh rate system, redrawing at predetermined rates of 10Hz, 30Hz, 60Hz, and 120Hz.

The leak also revealed that Google has increased the corner radius on both phone models, resulting in more rounded and less angular corners. Additionally, the Pixel 8 Pro’s screen, like its predecessors, will be sourced from Samsung. As for the Pixel 8 displays, they may come from either BOE or Samsung, although the exact supplier remains unknown.

Keep an eye out for the introduction and release of the Pixel 8 series in October.
