It’s unbelievable the series of circumstances and coincidences that paved the way for the incredible success of Nimona on Netflix. Originally developed by Blue Sky Studios, the project was abandoned when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. However, Netflix came to the rescue by acquiring the film, proving to be a smart move.
While Disney continues to struggle with box office flops like Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Nimona has achieved both critical acclaim and high audience figures. Despite a slight dip in its Rotten Tomatoes score, which currently stands at 94 percent, it remains one of the best-reviewed films of the year. According to FlixPatrol, it is also a top 10 hit on Netflix in 58 countries worldwide. Disney’s decision to let go of Nimona may have been a missed opportunity considering its growing popularity.
If Disney had released Nimona exclusively on Disney Plus, it might have disappeared quickly due to Disney’s tendency to remove content soon after its release. So, the collaboration between Nimona and Netflix can be considered a win for both parties.
