Director’s Cut of Chapter 4 Is on the Horizon

If the 2 hours and 49 minutes runtime of John Wick wasn’t enough action for you, then you’ll be happy to know that a director’s cut of John Wick: Chapter 4 is currently in the works, as confirmed by director Chad Stahelski. Although the film was already lengthy, Stahelski revealed in an interview with Collider that the original cut was a staggering 3 hours and 45 minutes. While the director’s cut won’t reach that additional hour, it will feature around 15 minutes of new footage.

Speaking with ComicBookMovie.com, Stahelski confirmed the progress of the director’s cut, stating that they are almost finished with it and have added an additional 10 to 15 minutes. The new version of the film will include scenes set in Berlin, a character named The Frau, a humorous interaction between John Wick and Tracker, and a few more action sequences. This confirmation follows Stahelski’s previous remarks to Collider about the possibility of another cut, mentioning his hope to release some funny scenes on the film’s Blu-ray.

According to the director, the reason for removing these scenes from the final cut was to preserve the film’s pacing. He explained that while the scenes were of high quality and included impressive choreography and engaging characters, they changed the overall pace of the film. Stahelski wanted to maintain the two-hour and 38-minute runtime, ensuring that it felt driven and purposeful.

Despite the conclusion of Chapter 4, the John Wick franchise continues to expand. Two spin-off titles have already been announced: a prequel series called The Continental, focusing on a young Winston, will be released this year, and next year will see the arrival of Ballerina, featuring Ana de Armas in the lead role. Additionally, John Wick 5 is in early development, and the franchise plans to enter the AAA video game space, as confirmed by Motion picture group chairman Joe Drake.
