Diablo 4: Druid Leveling Guide

With their mastery of powerful nature magic and the ability to shape-shift into mighty forms, Druids in Diablo 4 have a plethora of options when it comes to skills and gear. The choices you make will largely depend on the roles you want to fulfill and the activities you wish to partake in. Leveling up your Druid can be quite a challenge, but with the right set of skills and equipment, it can become much easier.

Werewolf builds are ideal for taking down single targets, but they can be as fragile as casters. On the other hand, Werebears excel as tanks and can deal substantial area-of-effect damage. However, their single-target DPS is lacking at the start. The best build for efficiently leveling the Druid is to combine Storm and Earth magic from a distance.

Updated by Chad Thesen on July 27, 2023: This guide has been recently updated with embedded links for easier navigation. These links include a dedicated storm build for werewolf enthusiasts and a build focusing on earth magic for werebear aficionados.

For leveling, the Storm and Earth build is by far the most effective for Druids. It provides excellent crowd control and deals devastating ranged DPS. Wind Shear, while dealing decent damage, primarily serves to stack up Spirit gain. Landslide is your primary ability, capable of extraordinary DPS once upgraded to Primal Landslide. Cyclone Armor offers much-needed protection and a bonus knockback move. Wolves Companion Skill is essential for crowd control, even though they deal less damage than Ravens. Boulder is the preferred Wrath Skill, especially when practiced at lining up enemies and bowling them away. Lastly, Cataclysm turns the tide in larger fights against Bosses or Elites with vast armies or powerful moves.

There are several Spirit Boons that perfectly complement this build. You’ll receive your first Skill Point at level 2, and an additional one with each level up until level 50, which is considered the soft cap. Although you can continue to level up and increase in power beyond this point, you will no longer earn new skill points. Increasing your Renown across Sanctuary’s regions can grant you 10 additional skill points.

One can also opt for a more focused storm build centered around the werewolf form or an earth build dedicated to the werebear.

When it comes to gear, you don’t need to worry about it at the beginning. However, it becomes increasingly important once you reach the grind phase. Once you stop rapidly leveling up, you’ll need to pay closer attention to equipment stats and features. Some gear provides bonus ranks to skills you frequently use, which are often more valuable than other stats. Since this is a caster Druid build, your attacks benefit more from naturally slower weapons such as staves and two-handed weapons, although one-handed weapons paired with Tomes can be viable. Legendary or Rare pieces with exceptional stats can also be advantageous. The essential stats for this build are listed below, from most to least important:

1. Bonus Skill Rank, Vulnerable Damage, Core Skill Damage
2. Willpower, Attack Speed, Lucky Hit Chance, Cooldown Reduction
3. Armor, Life, Healing Received, Damage Reduction
4. Intelligence, Damage to Slowed Enemies
5. Strength, Dexterity, Elemental Resistances, Thorns

In Diablo 4, Legendary items are primarily obtained as Aspects. These can be extracted and later placed on Rare gear pieces, often across multiple item types. Aspects are particularly useful for endgame builds like the Alpha Werewolf, but there are several that work exceptionally well for this leveling Druid build. The Codex of Power in-game provides a comprehensive list of available Druid Aspects, most of which can be found in dungeons on the world map. Additionally, the Codex has a tracking option for these locations. For more information on the best Druid Aspects, check out our dedicated article.

Gems become available after reaching Level 15 in Diablo 4. You can socket them into specific weapons, armor, and jewelry, although not all equipment has sockets. Sockets can be added to gear by a Jeweler for a fee. While it’s generally recommended to save up your Gems in Diablo games, you will eventually come across more powerful Gems in larger quantities. For this build, the recommended Gems and their effects are as follows:

– Weapon: Topaz for increased basic skill damage
– Armor: Ruby for increased total life
– Jewelry: Skull for increased armor and higher survival rate

By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to successfully leveling your Druid in Diablo 4 and becoming a force to be reckoned with in the world of Sanctuary.
