Details of National Women’s Soccer League introduction in FIFA 23 on March 15

EA Sports is continuing to make strides in women’s football by introducing two additional leagues to FIFA 23: the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). Starting on March 15, players will have access to these leagues and their respective teams through a free update. These additions are made possible by the advanced Hypermotion2 technology that drives the realistic gameplay in FIFA 23. Even as the franchise rebrands to ‘EA Sports FC,’ these women’s leagues will remain an integral part of the game.

Upon its initial release, FIFA 23 included the Barclays Women’s Super League and the French Division 1 Féminine, and now the game is expanding to include the NWSL. According to Jessica Berman, the Commissioner of NWSL, this integration is a significant milestone for the league and its players, as well as millions of football fans worldwide. Before the real-life NWSL season kicks off on March 25, FIFA 23 players can get a taste of the league by playing as any of the 12 teams in various game modes, including Kick-Off, Tournament, Seasons (Head-to-Head and Co-op), and Online Friendlies. The update also brings four new stadiums, along with kits, trophies, and celebrations.

No matter which game mode is chosen, FIFA 23 ensures an authentic match broadcast experience when both teams are from the same league. Customized cutscenes add to the realism. The Tournament mode allows players to select a team and guide them through the NWSL season, aiming to win the NWSL Shield and eventually compete in the playoffs to become champions.

In addition to the NWSL, FIFA 23 also includes the UWCL, providing the opportunity to play as popular European clubs like Real Madrid C.F., Vfl Wolfsburg, Juventus, and Eintracht Frankfurt. The Kick-Off mode allows players to begin their journey from the semi-final stage or go straight to the grand finals stage. In the Tournament mode, players start from the quarter-finals and progress towards becoming the ultimate champion. It is yet to be confirmed whether these new leagues will unlock additional achievements or trophies in FIFA 23.

Recent reports suggest that EA Sports is close to finalizing a $588 million agreement for licensing rights to all 20 English Premier League clubs. This six-year partnership would make EA Sports a key partner for the EPL and represents a significant increase compared to their previous agreement with the league. This development arises from EA’s decision to part ways with FIFA after the latter demanded $1 billion every four years to retain the title. As a result, EA has renamed its annual football simulator as ‘EA Sports FC’ starting this year.

The free update for the UWCL and NWSL will be available in FIFA 23 starting on March 15. The game can be purchased on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
