DE-CIX Jakarta internet exchange is live and onboarding customers

DECIX Indonesia Pratama, the joint venture between internet exchange operator DE-CIX and Salim Group subsidiary IDMarco Digital Solusi, announced on Tuesday that its DE-CIX Jakarta IX is now live and connecting customers.

According to DE-CIX, the new IX is distributed across two data centres in Jakarta: NTT’s JKT2 and the Matrix Data Center JKT2, with access to 95% of the Jakarta market. DE-CIX also said the first 10+ customers, which include domestic and international networks, are currently being connected to the Jakarta IX.

Alongside peering services for the direct interconnection of networks, DE-CIX Jakarta includes cloud exchange and cloud routing capabilities, providing direct access to the AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google, IBM, and Oracle clouds.

DE-CIX Jakarta said it also offers other enterprise-grade interconnection services, as well as a self-service portal and API for the easy management and automation of interconnection services.

The Jakarta IX is integrated into DE-CIX’s existing ASEAN ecosystem via a direct connection to its IX in Singapore. In addition to Jakarta and Singapore, DE-CIX also has regional exchanges in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Penang, Brunei, and Manila. Customers at any of these exchanges are able to exchange Internet traffic with networks at any of the other IXs in the region.

DE-CIX CEO Ivo Ivanov said that adding Indonesia to its ecosystem was “the next logical step” – not only because it has the largest population and the fastest-growing economy in Southeast Asia, but also because of its ambitions to be a major connectivity and digital hub in its own right.

“As mega hubs like Singapore and Hong Kong are losing some of their relevance due to increasing restrictions in the respective markets, we are now seeing multi-million-dollar investments pouring into markets like Jakarta to serve local needs,” Ivanov  said. “Global players are now planning their arrival in the Indonesian market and expect the same quality of interconnection services and latency to end-users as they have in other key markets.”
