During the Jim Lee And Friends panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Dan Jurgens made an exciting announcement regarding another Death Of Superman revisitation project.
At the Jim Lee And Friends panel at San Diego Comic-Con, renowned comic book writer Dan Jurgens took the stage to unveil another Death Of Superman revisitation project. This special project coincides with the 30th anniversary of The Return of Superman and includes an Anniversary Special featuring Jurgens himself, along with fellow Death and Return creators Louise Simonson, Jerry Ordway, and Karl Kesel. The special will be written by this talented team, with Jurgens and Brett Breeding providing the artwork. Additional covers will be provided by Brad Walker and Jon Bogdanove.
The Return of Superman Anniversary Special will focus on the four Reign Of Supermen replacements that took over the Superman role: Steel, Superboy, the Eradicator, and Cyborg Superman. The special will explore their current roles in the DC Universe. Fortunately, Steel and Superboy already have their own titles, while Eradicator Superman and Cyborg Superman have recently returned to the forefront in the Action Comics and Steelworks titles.
When the news of DC’s plan to kill Superman, a beloved cultural icon, broke out, The Death of Superman received unprecedented coverage from the mainstream media. The issue Superman #75, which depicted Superman’s death, sold over six million copies and became the top-selling comic of 1992. It was quite a task to recapture the public’s interest afterwards.
However, just as excitement was building, a fire alarm disrupted the panel, forcing everyone to evacuate. Thankfully, this means they will make it to the Eisners on time after all. As a consolation, attendees were given “Garro” pins, which may soon be available on eBay!
