DC-Loving Congressman Robert Garcia breaks ranks with Snyderbronies and supports Superman: Legacy casting that ditches Henry Cavill.
We have recently discovered that David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan have been chosen to portray Clark Kent, also known as Superman, and Lois Lane in the upcoming film Superman: Legacy. This film is written and directed by James Gunn, and it seems that the casting has received support from an unexpected source – DC-Loving Congressman Robert Garcia.
It is unclear whether Garcia’s endorsement of Corenswet and Brosnahan stems from his personal love for DC Comics or his role as a member of the bipartisan Congressional Popular Arts Caucus. This caucus is set to launch at San Diego Comic-Con, raising questions about its bipartisan nature if Garcia only supports DC castings. It remains to be seen if Garcia will show the same enthusiasm for future Marvel Cinematic Universe castings.
Garcia’s support for Corenswet and Brosnahan could create backlash from the Snyderbrony voting blog, which played a role in Garcia’s rise to power. Snyderbronies, fans of director Zack Snyder, have been demanding the return of the Snyderverse and boycotting films that deviate from his vision. It remains to be seen how they will react to Garcia’s approval of a non-Henry Cavill Superman. They say that no fury compares to that of a Snyderbrony scorned, and perhaps Garcia should take note.
Garcia, known as the youngest, first openly gay, first Latino, and first Snyderbrony mayor of Long Beach, has been using his position to advocate for DC-related initiatives. He supported the inclusion of DC fanboy messages in a community center and campaigned for the release of the Snyder Cut of Justice League. Now as a Congressman, Garcia has continued his support for superheroes, even leveraging his congressional reading room to indulge his love for comics. His dedication to DC has not gone unnoticed.
