RALEIGH, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – On Tuesday Attorney General Josh Stein announced a settlement with Frontier Communications stating the internet service provider to invest $20 million to improve internet infrastructure.
Stein sued Frontier back in 2021 after receiving over 200 complaints from North Carolina residents of their internet operating slower than the company promised it would.
“Affordable, reliable internet is necessary for North Carolinians to work, study, get health care, and run businesses,” Stein said. “We’ve been hearing concerns from Frontier customers for years now, and I’m hopeful that these investments will lead to better service.”
Not only will Frontier invest in $20 million over the next four years, but the company will also pay $300,000 to compensate North Carolina customers who were affected by slower speeds.
The NC Department of Justice is setting up the restitution program and planning to reach out to people who qualify to receive payments.
Frontier will also improve its marketing to represent accurate information and provide customers with free, simple cancellation options if it fails to provide advertised internet speeds.
