All cat owners know that the biggest price to pay for keeping a domestic feline is having to live with their shedding fur all over their clothes, especially if they’re fresh out of the dryer.
In a clip shared on TikTok earlier in January, under the username meowdymonica, the poster decided to do the laundry test on her cat, and the results didn’t really surprise anyone.
The cat can be seen comfortably napping on his owner’s bed, as his mom places a freshly washed hoodie on the other side to see his reaction. A caption along with the clip reads: “Testing the scientific question: will Charlie move from this perfectly good spot because there’s fresh laundry on the bed?”
To no one’s surprise, the cat almost immediately left his warm spot to go lay on the clean hoodie. The caption continued: “Spotted. making the move. ah yes, much better.” Followed by: “Charlie can’t resist fresh laundry.”

Cats have a preference for clean clothes fresh out of the washer, but why do they like laundry so much? Cat wellness experts at Catster magazine explain that this behavior may be due to a number of reasons.
It may be because it’s warm, or because they like the basket you’re using, but it can also be that it reminds them of you. In fact, cats have a sense of smell that is about 14 times stronger than humans, so even after you wash your clothes, your furbaby can still smell you.
“Cats may also be drawn to sit on clean laundry to reintroduce familiar smells that were washed away,” the website added.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across Instagram. It has so far received over 150,300 likes on the platform.
One user, billdoesntwearhats, commented: “Charlie is sooo cute.” And chereselashesxoxo said: “He’s literally so adorable it’s insane.” Micheltanaka added: “All cats seemingly LOVE clean laundry.”
Another user, shabbyprincess16 wrote: “My cat Zeus is the same. He likes underwear tho lol he can fit in my bra cup.”
Davis06 said: “If I open the dryer when the clothes are done, I have to hurry and get everything out because the cat will smell it from anywhere in the house and jump in the dryer with the clothes. And I never fight it. She loves it.”
