Introducing a unique and captivating addition to the Scarlet & Violet Gen 9 set, Pokémon TCG artist Pani Kobayashi presents the Great Tusk Special Illustration Rare.

The Scarlet & Violet era of the Pokémon TCG has commenced. With the conclusion of Sword & Shield, the Scarlet & Violet era began in March 2023, highlighting the ninth generation of Pokémon games and the new region: Paldea. The advent started with the Scarlet & Violet base set, which officially launched in the United States on March 31st, 2023. This set brought forth significant and enduring changes to the hobby. Notably, the card borders have now evolved to silver, aligning with the Japanese releases. Another prominent modification is that each pack guarantees at least one holo-rare and two reverse holos. The core mechanic of this era is the lowercase ex design, featuring a double holographic pattern with a horizontal shine and starry sparkle. Full Art exs now boast a green, foil outline around the Pokémon. Going forward, the Secret Rare section of expansions will encompass Full Arts, Illustration Rares and Special Illustration Rare exs, Full Art Trainers, Special Illustration Rare Trainers, and Gold Hyper Rares. In this segment, we delve into the dazzling Special Illustration Rare from the Scarlet & Violet base set, featuring a captivating Paradox Pokémon.

Among the exciting new introductions in Scarlet & Violet is the Great Tusk Special Art Rare. This card showcases the Ground/Fighting-type (in the TCG, these are merged into a single Fighting typing) ancient relative of Donphan. Artist Pani Kobayashi’s masterpiece presents a painterly interpretation of this character set against a mysterious, scarlet-infused landscape. Having contributed Pokémon TCG cards since Sun & Moon – Cosmic Eclipse, Kobayashi has earned recognition for remarkable works like the Hisuian Basculegion from Sword & Shield – Astral Radiance pre-release kits and the Darkrai VSTAR Special Art Rare from Crown Zenith. Kobayashi’s involvement in the hobby is ever-increasing, with their substantial contribution to this inaugural Paldean-era set surpassing any previous releases.
