Bryan Cranston delivered an impactful speech at a SAG-AFTRA strike rally in New York City, criticizing Disney CEO Bob Iger for his disrespectful remarks and refusal to adapt to the changing entertainment industry. Cranston passionately advocated against the threat of artificial intelligence replacing their jobs, emphasizing the need for Iger to understand the perspective of artists and address their concerns. He firmly stood by the union, defending their right to decent work and demanding respect and dignity.

During the rally, several prominent stars including Steve Buscemi, Wendell Pierce, Christian Slater, Christine Baranski, Stephen Lang, Titus Burgess, Michael Shannon, BD Wong, Brendan Fraser, Jessica Chastain, Matt Bomer, Chloë Grace Moretz, and others joined Cranston on stage to express their support for the strike and union members.

“Our industry has undergone exponential changes. The business model of today is not the same as it was 10 years ago,” Cranston stated. “Despite acknowledging this truth in today’s economy, they are adamantly fighting against us, clinging to an outdated economic system. They want us to regress in time, but we refuse to do so.”

Falling on Deaf Ears

Cranston further expressed his frustration, acknowledging that Iger may not fully comprehend their perspective as artists. However, he urged Iger to listen and acknowledge the existential threat posed by what Cranston referred to as “robots” in their industry. Unfortunately, it may be challenging to capture Iger’s attention, considering he previously made light of the idea of artificial intelligence taking over his own job.

“We have a message for Mr. Iger. We understand, sir, that you perceive things differently. We don’t expect you to fully grasp who we are. But we ask you to hear us and, more importantly, listen to us. We refuse to allow our jobs to be replaced by robots. We refuse to have our right to work and earn a decent living taken away. And most importantly, we will not let you strip us of our dignity! We are proud union members until the very end!”
