In May 2022, Broadcom announced that it will acquire VMware for $69 billion. The company declared the finalisation of the agreement on November 22, following the swift receipt of regulatory approval from China. Now an online report suggests that the company is planning to lay off VMware employees.
Email sent to impacted employees
As reported by Business Insider, the impacted employees have received an email from the company.“Broadcom recently completed its acquisition of VMware. As part of integration planning, and following an organisational needs assessment, we identified go-forward roles that will be required within the combined company. We regret to inform you that your position is being eliminated and your employment will be terminated,” reads the email.
“We would like to thank you for your dedication and service. We want to make this transition as smooth as possible, including offering you a generous severance package and providing you a non-working paid notice period,” the email continued.
The company has not disclosed the number of impacted employees.
VMware, with over 38,000 employees as of February, had already undergone job cuts before the acquisition’s completion. In September, VMware informed employees that they could either be offered a job by Broadcom, a transitional role, or a severance package.
Recently, Amazon also announced job cuts in its Alexa division. The company fired hundreds of employees. Amazon’s Vice President of Alexa and Fire TV, Daniel Rausch, communicated the news of layoffs to the team on Friday, November 17.
