Brad Pitt to Star in Apple’s Upcoming F1 Film, Set to Commence Filming at British Grand Prix

Apple is set to begin filming its upcoming Formula 1 movie at the British Grand Prix 2023, scheduled to take place from July 7 to July 9 at the Silverstone Circuit in England. The film features Brad Pitt playing the role of Sonny Hayes, a former driver returning to the sport, and Damson Idris as Hayes’ younger teammate. Directed by Joseph Kosinski (known for “Top Gun: Maverick”), the movie is produced by seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, in collaboration with Hollywood veteran Jerry Bruckheimer.

Preparations for the filming have already begun at the Silverstone Circuit, with a dedicated section of the pitlane showcasing the fictional APXGP team that is featured in the film. The APXGP team is a fictional 11th team on the grid, inspired by the current Mercedes F1 team in terms of livery and sponsor logos. This connection is not surprising, considering producer Lewis Hamilton’s association with Mercedes, where he has achieved six out of his seven F1 world championship victories.

“I’ve seen all the footage of camera positions [we will use],” says Hamilton. “I’ve spent time with Joe (Kosinski) trying to make sure we’ve got the best positions,” adds the seven-time world champion.

The filming for the movie, featuring the APXGP car on the track, will take place in between track sessions for the F1 British Grand Prix 2023 and any support series race sessions. Additionally, the Apple film crews will capture footage of the actual British Grand Prix itself, which will be included in the movie.

Formula 1 has recognized the influence of entertainment media in the sport, especially after the success of Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” docu-series. While Apple’s film does not have a release date yet, it is expected to have a theatrical run before being available on the Apple TV+ streaming platform.
