Blizzard has made a historic announcement today, sharing that Diablo 4 has become their fastest-selling title of all time. Both consoles and PC saw the highest pre-launch unit sales for the game.
Since the game’s early access started on June 1, players have clocked in a collective of 93 million hours of playtime in just four days. That’s the equivalent of over 10,000 years or playing 24 hours a day since the beginning of human civilization.
General Manager of Diablo, Rod Fergusson, commented on the milestone: “This is a moment years in the making for the Diablo 4 team. We’re extremely proud to offer players the richest story ever told in a Diablo game. Since the game was first announced in 2019, the support from millions of players around the world drove us toward this release of our dark vision of Sanctuary. Hail Lilith, Blessed Mother.”
The game is set 50 years after the events of Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, which begins with the summoning of Lilith back to the mortal realm. You will face off against horrific creatures across a diverse landscape that features different biomes and demonic beasts across five regions and over 120 dungeons. With five classes to choose from, you can progress and build your skills while playing through the main storyline and partaking in the game’s various side-quests.
After completing the main storyline, players can explore end-game activities to further advance their character’s abilities. The Helltide event will occur regularly along with other gameplay features such as Nightmare Dungeons, the updated Paragon Board system, and new bounties in Whispers of the Dead. In Fields of Hatred, players can battle other players in designated grounds.
In addition to the various gameplay features mentioned above, Blizzard has promised new quest lines, characters, challenges and legendary loot in upcoming seasons and expansions.
