Blackpink’s Jisoo eyed for zombie romance K-drama Influenza; Seo In-guk, Lee Sung-kyung in talks on In Your Brilliant Season – Korean drama casting latest

Several major stars appear set to return to the small screen in a range of exciting new K-drama series, including zombie- and superhero-themed shows.

Influenza

Park Jung-min ( Hellbound) and Blackpink superstar Jisoo have reportedly been approached to star in Influenza, a major new series from Coupang Play, the Korean streamer behind the acclaimed drama Anna with Bae Suzy.
The show, which will comprise nine episodes, will be directed by Yoon Sung-hyun, who recently made the Netflix sci-fi crime thriller Time to Hunt, and scripted by Han Jin-won, the Academy Award-winning co-writer of Parasite.

Based on a novel by Han Sang-woon, the series will follow a soldier and the girlfriend he just broke up with, who suddenly have to fight for their lives at the outset of a zombie outbreak.

Jisoo, one of the world’s most popular Korean celebrities, has been increasingly focusing on her acting career. She most recently appeared in the show Snowdrop.

Park, who has worked with director Yoon on all his films, recently appeared in Smugglers, the biggest Korean film of the summer season.

Although I Am Not a Hero

Jang Ki-yong ( My Roommate Is a Gumiho) and Chun Woo-hee ( Delightfully Deceitful) have been confirmed as the leads of the forthcoming JTBC drama Although I Am Not a Hero, to be helmed by SKY Castle and Snowdrop director Jo Hyun-tak.

The series will follow a family who have different supernatural powers. Owing to a range of modern conditions, including depression and smartphone addiction, they begin to lose them.

Jang is Bok Gwi-joo, who has the ability to time-travel, but only back to happy memories in his past and without being able to change anything. Chun will play Do Da-hee, a woman who comes into contact with Gwi-joo’s family.

Co-stars for the series include veteran actress Go Doo-shim ( Curtain Call) and Claudia Kim (Avengers: Age of Ultron) as other members of Gwi-joo’s family.

Although I Am Not a Hero will be the first series in which Jang appears since being discharged from his mandatory military service in South Korea. The series is set to air in 2024.

In Your Brilliant Season

Doom at Your Service actor Seo In-guk and Lee Sung-kyung of Dr. Romantic are in talks to lead the new series In Your Brilliant Season. The show will follow a man who loses both his hearing and memory following an accident, and the woman who comes into his life and saves him.

Seo is considering the part of Sun Woo-chan, an animator working at an American studio who hides several secrets behind a cheerful personality.

Lee is being eyed for the role of Song Ha-ran, the eldest of three daughters. She is a designer well known for her artistic ability and strong work ethic; although she gets along with people, she isn’t close with anyone around her.

Prior to Lee, Moving’s Han Hyo-joo had been approached for the female leading role.

Seo is currently working on the upcoming series Death’s Game alongside Park So-dam.

Evil Destiny

Shin Min-a ( Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha) and Park Hae-soo ( Squid Game) have been offered leading roles in the streaming series Evil Destiny. Based on a webtoon, it is described as a crime thriller about characters who destroy each other as they chase their desires.

K-drama casting latest: Behind Your Touch’s Han Ji-min eyed for romcom

Shin has been approached for the part of Joo-yeon, a surgeon who suffers nightmares thanks to lifelong trauma stemming from an incident in her childhood. One day, a face she never wanted to see again reappears before her.

Park is considering the role of a mysterious man who witnesses an accident one night and makes a deal to cover up the crime, only for that deal to suddenly be rescinded.

The show will be directed by Lee Il-hyung, who made the hit 2016 Korean thriller A Violent Prosecutor, and will run for six episodes.

Shin, most recently seen in Our Blues, is also in talks to appear in the drama Because I Want No Loss, a tvN series in which she may co-star with Sh**ting Stars actor Kim Young-dae.
