Trade-in is an Apple program that lets people hand in older phones and gadgets to receive credit or cash that can be used towards purchasing a newer model.

HOW CAN IT COST YOU?

You must remove your personal information from your phone otherwise it could fall into the wrong hands.

Bad actors can do a lot with your data, including accessing your iCloud account, and potentially your Apple Pay information.

To prevent this, Apple recommends that you first transfer information to your new device.

Then you are advised to remove your personal information from your old device.

“You shouldn’t manually delete your contacts, calendars, reminders, documents, photos, or any other iCloud information while you’re signed in to iCloud with your Apple ID,” Apple warns on its webpage.

“This would delete your content from the iCloud servers and any of your devices signed in to iCloud,” it added.

Instead, users can back up their data on iCloud or their desktops by going into their settings.

HOW TO CLEAR YOUR DATA

When your data is secure, you can clear your iPhone of all your sensitive information.

Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro has a life-saving new feature

Go to your device’s Settings and click on General, then scroll to the bottom.

From there, tap on Transfer or Reset iPhone and then tap on Erase all Content and Settings.

Your phone should be in factory settings now and ready for selling or trading in.

HOW TO TRADE IN YOUR DEVICE

You can trade in an old device at the Apple Store, or by using a pre-paid Trade-in kit that comes in the mail.

Online trade-in usually takes about two to three weeks and you need to be 18 years old to take part.
