In our opinion, Ben Affleck didn’t receive fair treatment as the DCEU Batman. His portrayal of Bruce Wayne in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” showcased significant character development, transforming from a paranoid recluse to someone who finds faith in the world and relies on others.
Unfortunately, we never got to see a standalone Batfleck movie. “The Batman” was originally planned to fill that role, but it was reworked into the Robert Pattinson version during pre-production. With his appearance in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” seemingly canceled, it appears that “The Flash” will be Affleck’s final outing as Batman. It’s a disappointing and underwhelming way to bid farewell…
However, optimistic DC fans speculate that “The Flash” may be subtly teasing Affleck’s return in a “Kingdom Come” adaptation. This iconic series by Mark Waid and Alex Ross is set in an alternate future, where an older Batman uses a powered exoskeleton to continue his fight against crime. Could Affleck’s suit in “The Flash” be referencing this story?
However, skeptics argue that this suit doesn’t resemble the powered exoskeleton from “Kingdom Come” and is instead designed for high-speed Batcycle pursuits. It seems that the redesign is simply a marketing ploy to encourage fans to buy “The Flash” merchandise and add to their growing Batman action figure collection.
While a live-action “Kingdom Come” adaptation may happen in the future, it’s unlikely that Affleck will be called upon to don the Batsuit again. Warner Bros. seems determined to move on from the last decade of DCEU movies in favor of the new James Gunn DCU. With a new Superman already cast, we can expect a Batman casting announcement by the end of the year.
