Before The Final Shape, the essential criteria required from Destiny 2

I must admit, I found a strange comfort in the mediocre release of Lightfall. With the previous successes of the 30th Anniversary Pack and The Witch Queen, Destiny 2 had set a high standard. However, the ebbs and flows of Destiny’s history have proven that the highs are often met with disappointing lows. In fact, it is those lows that make the high points shine even brighter. Perhaps Bungie is using their Light and Darkness Saga as a meta commentary on the necessity of both positive and negative experiences for true growth and meaning. Whatever the case may be, Destiny’s story is soon coming to a close with The Final Shape set to release in less than a year. As the anticipation builds, every Guardian is hoping for the triumphant ending that this unique story deserves.

To achieve this, Bungie must deliver on several fronts. Firstly, the remaining seasonal stories must be brilliant, complementing each other and building up to The Final Shape. After the confusion and disappointment of Lightfall, Bungie must work to restore our faith in their ability to deliver a satisfying conclusion. The recent teaser trailer for The Final Shape is promising, with speculation running wild about the triangular hole in the sky as a possible portal to the interior of the Traveler, the Black Garden, or some other unknown location.

Bungie must also address several lingering questions, such as the identity and intentions of The Veil, the significance of Neomuna and the Cloud Striders, and what has become of the Traveler. The newly launched Season of the Deep appears to be tackling some of these issues, featuring a fantastic nautical theme and picking up on interesting narrative threads that had previously been left dangling.

Most importantly, Bungie must handle their characters with care. Recent events, such as the poorly handled deaths of Rohan and Amanda Holliday, have left players feeling disappointed and disheartened. The coming seasons will present an even greater challenge, as the Destiny community must bid farewell to Zavala. With actor Lance Reddick’s recent passing, the community has come together to pay tribute to his incredible work and importance to the game. Bungie must handle this transition with the respect and sensitivity it deserves.

Finally, Bungie must address technical issues that have been plaguing the game, from frustrating in-game quirks to alarming character deletion bugs, crashes, and server outages. With the game becoming more complex and bloated, the challenge of balancing and navigating all the different elements continues to escalate.

Despite the disappointment of Lightfall, Destiny has remained a beloved game for millions of players worldwide. As we approach the end of this unique story, the anticipation and excitement continue to build. Bungie must deliver a satisfying conclusion that honors the incredible journey we’ve been on, and we remain hopeful that they are up to the challenge.
