It also represents Netflix’s endeavor to create more international spin-offs for their film catalog. Despite the mixed reviews, the Bird Box franchise holds great potential for further expansion with standalone spin-off chapters and the opportunity to tell a grander story.

Why the Directors of Bird Box Barcelona Chose to Exclude a Sandra Bullock Cameo
In an interview with ComicBook, directors David Pastor and Álex Pastor revealed that there were no plans to bring Sandra Bullock back for a cameo appearance in Bird Box Barcelona. David explains, “No, I don’t think that was ever discussed. The beauty of expanding the franchise in this way was the freedom we had to do whatever we wanted. We were not bound by the first movie, except for maintaining consistency with its world and events.”
He further elaborates, “However, we had complete freedom to create an original story that could stand on its own. That was one of the appealing aspects of this project for us as directors. You don’t even need to have watched the original film to enjoy this one, to be honest. Watching the first film might enhance the experience and provide a fuller picture, but Bird Box Barcelona can still be enjoyed as a standalone movie.”
Bird Box Barcelona is now available for streaming on Netflix.
