Baldur’s Gate 3 Hotfix 4 Rolled Back Temporarily Due to Build Error Causing Crashes; Game Reverted to Hotfix 3

Larian Studios has released hotfix 4 for Baldur’s Gate 3 overnight, as promised. However, due to unexpected issues, the patch has been rolled back.

Yesterday, the Belgian studio shared an update roadmap for their popular game, confirming that hotfix #4 would be available before the game’s first official patch. Shortly after, Larian released the fourth hotfix, which included fixes for crashes, bugs, flow issues, and companion sleeping issues.

You can find the full release notes for hotfix #4 here. Unfortunately, players encountered crashing problems after installing this patch, leading to its temporary rollback while the team investigates the cause of the issues. As a result, Baldur’s Gate is back to hotfix #3.

“Due to a build error causing new crashes, we’ve rolled back Hotfix 4 for the time being,” explained Larian on Twitter. “We’ll re-release it as soon as we’ve fixed the cause.”

Furthermore, players who saved their game after applying Hotfix 4 will be unable to load those saves. The development team states, “If you’ve saved since updating, you won’t be able to load those saves until we’ve re-published Hotfix 4. You can keep playing on your Hotfix 3 saves, but you won’t be able to load saves from today’s Hotfix 4 until it’s pushed live again. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

An estimated time of arrival for hotfix 4’s re-release has not been provided yet. However, we will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available worldwide for PC. The third installment in the highly successful Baldur’s Gate cRPG series launched earlier this month after an extensive early-access period. In addition to PC, the game will also be released on PlayStation 5 next month. An Xbox version is also in development, but the team requires more time to enable split-screen play on Microsoft’s Xbox Series S console.
