‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ automatically puts players at risk of a 400% spike in damage

The inclusion of Karmic Dice in Baldur’s Gate 3 introduces a potential risk for players, as it can significantly increase enemy damage. Fortunately, dedicated players have shared a helpful guide on how to disable this feature.

According to GamesRadar, players akdavidxy and Havelok collaborated on the game’s subreddit to inform new players of Baldur’s Gate 3 that Karmic Dice is enabled by default at the beginning of their playthroughs. Karmic Dice alters the outcome of the subsequent dice roll in a sequence when previous rolls have consistently failed, allowing the player to succeed in that particular situation.

While this feature may initially seem advantageous, Karmic Dice also affects enemy dice rolls. Research conducted by akdavidxy, who had a high armor class of 23, revealed that even in the early stages of Baldur’s Gate 3, enemies had a 30 to 40 percent chance of successfully attacking them.

“The higher your armor class is, the more critical hits you’ll take, and since crits deal double damage, this effect is actually twice as potent,” explained akdavidxy. Consequently, Karmic Dice was regarded as a “significant penalty” for players who prefer a defensive character build.

To ensure a more balanced experience, players recommended that newcomers disable this setting. Additionally, the game’s creative director, Swen Vincke from Larian Studios, suggested that players create their own characters instead of playing as the pre-existing origins.

“The origins work better if you’ve already played the game once, as it allows you to experience it from their perspective. You can understand what Shadowheart, for example, was thinking the first time she saw you, and now you can be in their head,” Vincke explained.

In other gaming news, Old School RuneScape’s Desert Treasure 2 – The Fallen Empire quest has been hailed as the “most ambitious” quest to date, and it is now live.
