Call of Duty Mobile Warzone recently launched on iOS, and that only means that a proper comparison showdown between Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max and a top-tier gaming smartphone can happen to show which device comes out on top. On this occasion, we have ASUS’ ROG Phone 8 Pro beating its rival by 7.5 percent, but only on the ‘HIGH’ graphics option.
Galaxy S24 Ultra performs worse than the iPhone 15 Pro Max on HIGH settings, despite featuring a slightly overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
An image of a chart uploaded by Dame Tech shows three flagships that were used to run Call of Duty Mobile Warzone; the iPhone 15 Pro Max, ROG Phone 8 Pro, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra. As you can tell in the image, only the iPhone 15 Pro Max was tested with ‘PEAK’ graphics settings. This is because no Android flagship sporting the Snapdragon 8 Gen supports this visual option, and for the time being, we have not concluded if this is due to a lack of software optimization or simply because the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 cannot keep up with the demanding image quality of the game.
In any case, in the HIGH graphics settings, ASUS’ ROG Phone 8 Pro gets the better of the iPhone 15 Pro Max by being 7.5 percent faster, registering a framerate of 81.3FPS. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, on the other hand, manages only 56.7FPS, despite featuring an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It is likely that the ROG Phone 8 Pro’s superior cooling solution allowed the 8-core CPU cluster and Adreno 750 GPU to run at their maximum capabilities, thereby obtaining a higher framerate than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
However, what is impressive about the iPhone 15 Pro Max is that it lacks no beefy vapor chamber like the ROG Phone 8 Pro, and it still manages to push a healthy framerate while maintaining solid temperatures of 41 degrees Celsius, matching its competitor’s thermals. The A17 Pro’s efficient 3nm process probably aided it immensely in this comparison. In the ‘PEAK’ graphics option, the iPhone 15 Pro Max registers a framerate of 62FPS, which is still a fluid experience.
Hopefully, we can draw more comparisons when Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 launches later this year and can run Call of Duty Mobile Warzone at the highest visual settings. For now, if you have an iPhone 15 Pro Max, you are one of the lucky ones.
