ASRock may have released a major leak on Intel Raptor Lake

Unconventional sources sometimes bring unexpected surprises, and that’s exactly what happened with ASRock’s recent post on Weibo. The post provided insights into Intel’s rumored Raptor Lake refresh, including estimated performance improvements and a potential release date. If these rumors turn out to be true, these processors could become some of the most sought-after CPUs.

The article, initially spotted by ITHome, delves into the next-gen Intel CPUs. While the post acknowledges that it is based on rumors, ASRock confirms the speculation that the Raptor Lake refresh will offer a 4% to 8% increase in single-core performance, followed by an 8% to 15% boost in multi-core performance. While these may not seem like groundbreaking improvements compared to a completely new generation of chips, they could still make it challenging for the refresh to achieve significant sales figures.

ASRock also drops an exciting piece of information: the processors will natively support the DDR5-6400 JEDEC memory standard, a significant upgrade from the current DDR5-5600 limit of Raptor Lake chips.

In anticipation of Intel’s new CPUs, ASRock is preparing to support them with its motherboards. The blog post mentions that the company’s motherboards will receive a badge indicating their compatibility with the next generation. Both 600- and 700-series boards are expected to support Intel’s Raptor Lake refresh, with new BIOS versions anticipated to be released in due course.

In addition to performance details and memory upgrades, ASRock appears to have unintentionally revealed an estimated release date. While previous rumors suggested a 2024 release, it now appears that these processors may hit the market as early as October.

Hardware leaks in the PC industry often originate from various sources like Twitter and YouTube. However, it is uncommon for a manufacturer of top-tier motherboards for both Intel and AMD, as well as other components like graphics cards, to release information ahead of schedule. Despite ASRock’s credibility, it is important to approach this information with caution as it is still based on rumors. More concrete details are likely to be unveiled during Intel’s upcoming Innovation event in September, which will either confirm or debunk today’s leak.
