Arrow Video Releases 4-Movie Collection of ‘Psycho’ in 4K UHD Blu-ray

The slasher genre is currently experiencing a renaissance with films like “Scream VI,” the “Halloween” legacy trilogy, and “Sick” captivating audiences. However, the success of this genre can be traced back to one iconic film: Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho.” Released in 1960, this proto-slasher is considered one of the greatest and most influential horror films of all time. To commemorate its 60th anniversary in 2020, the film was remastered in 4K. Now, thanks to Arrow Video, all four “Psycho” films will be available in a 4K collection.

Each film comes with its previously released special features. Additionally, the collection includes double-sided posters for each film, showcasing both the original and new artwork by Matt Giffen. Each film will have its own case, and the release includes nine postcard-sized art cards and a 120-page collector’s book with new essays by film critics John-Paul Checkett and Mains.

The Legacy of Psycho

Psycho has had a lasting impact on the horror genre, with many films referencing it. From the iconic shower scene to Hitchcock’s innovative direction and the eerie musical score, this 60s gem remains one of the most recognizable genre films. Even those who haven’t seen it are familiar with its infamous lines and scenes. The film was ahead of its time, tackling dark content and themes such as violence and sexual identity. The performances by Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh are considered among the best in the genre, culminating in one of the most shocking twists in horror history. Psycho paved the way for the slasher craze that followed, including classics like “Halloween,” “Friday the 13th,” “Sleepaway Camp,” and “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.” The story has also been revisited numerous times, including in the TV series “Bates Motel.”
