Ark: Survival Ascended, the popular dinosaur survival game, is undergoing some changes in its release and pricing structure. Last week, the developers announced that Ark 2 would be delayed until late 2024, and in the meantime, they would release a standalone Unreal Engine 5 remaster. Originally, this remaster was intended to be bundled with access to Ark 2 for $49.99, but due to fan backlash, the team has decided to sell the remaster separately for $59.99 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. Additionally, all the expansions that were previously planned to be sold separately will now be included in the package.
Studio Wildcard, the developers of Ark, initially considered providing the remaster as a free upgrade. However, they ultimately decided to charge for it due to technical limitations and potential issues with existing save data. The upgrade would have invalidated save data, caused problems with mods, and introduced gameplay imperfections. As a result, the developers had to make the difficult decision to sunset the ASE Official Network servers, essentially requiring players to purchase the new remaster. However, saves will still be usable on unofficial servers, player-hosted sessions, and in single-player mode.
The pricing for the PS5 version of Ark: Survival Ascended has also been adjusted to match other platforms. Previously priced at $39.99, it will now be priced equally across all platforms. The remaster will bring enhanced graphics, a photo mode, support for Nvidia DLSS, improvements to character creation and customisation, cross-platform multiplayer, and more.
The release of Ark: Survival Ascended is scheduled for August on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. Ark 2 will be released separately in late 2024 on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and Xbox Game Pass. Players can look forward to a wealth of content, including various maps and expansions, with a release timeline extending into 2024.
