Every now and then, we hear about how Apple Watch saved a life, and while people think it is just marketing, there are real testimonials behind that, and today’s story is no different. An 82-year-old man who received the watch for Christmas is now talking about how the watch may have saved his life after he got hit by a car.
Apple Watch saves another life as the fall and crash detection feature works as intended
The footage has now surfaced, and the incident took place at the roundabout in Kidderminster in the UK on January 19th, earlier this year. The roundabouts are generally considered safer in the UK for both drivers and pedestrians, but this was the different situation here as the driver decided to cut a corner and did not drive in the correct lane–this resulted in the 82-year-old Tony Jauncey getting hit by the car while walking across the road. How did the Apple Watch save his life? Well, let’s keep reading.
The local newspaper Shropshire Star claims that Jauncey has survived this incident with a broken collarbone, cracked ribs, and severe bruising. The user claims that his new Apple Watch immediately rang the emergency services, and that is how his life was saved.
“I was walking back to my car, which was parked in Aldi and was crossing the road when I felt a thud,” Jauncey told the newspaper. “The next thing I saw was the bumper of a car in front of me… I was lying in the road, I was not able to move.”
“The other thing I’d like to point out is my Apple Watch,” he continued. “The watch detected a fall and asked if I wanted to call the emergency services.”
“I could cancel the request by pressing a button on the side of the phone,” he said, “but I left it and as a result the phone called 999.”
Jauncey even talks about how the driver stopped and came to help him. In addition to that, three off-duty nurses also came and helped him, along with other people in the area who were there, and they helped him. Honestly, this is not the first time we have heard how the Apple Watch has saved someone’s life or helped in saving someone’s life. The fall and crash detection feature on the app has been there for some time now, and it works wonderfully. Although I would never wish for anyone to go through something like this, it is good to know that Apple continuously improves the feature and makes it a lot more useful for all Apple Watch users.
