Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass subscriptions have doubled since Messi’s arrival in the US

Lionel Messi’s arrival in Major League Soccer has had a significant impact on Inter Miami’s ticket prices, with a surge in demand. As one of the greatest soccer players of his generation, and potentially of all time, Messi’s presence on the team has created a buzz that is driving up ticket prices for Inter Miami games. Additionally, subscriptions to Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass have more than doubled since Messi joined the team in July.

This information comes directly from Jorge Mas, one of Inter Miami’s owners, who shared that Spanish language viewership on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV for Messi matches has exceeded 50% and continues to rise. Apple CEO Tim Cook even retweeted Mas’ comments, validating the significance of Messi’s impact on the Spanish-speaking community. This positive response from viewers has undoubtedly pleased Apple, although the exact number of subscribers remains undisclosed.

During an Apple earnings call, Cook expressed his satisfaction with the partnership with MLS, stating that they are surpassing their subscriber expectations. Cook specifically acknowledged the role Messi’s transfer to Inter Miami played in achieving this success, highlighting the company’s excitement about the future of this collaboration.

Apple, who recently reduced the price of the MLS Season Pass subscription from $99 to $49 for the second half of the season, is said to be paying $250 million annually for MLS broadcast rights. Additionally, Messi reportedly receives a portion of the revenue from new MLS Season Pass subscribers as part of his contract with Inter Miami.

Messi’s impact on the field has been immediate and remarkable. In just four games, he has scored seven goals and provided three assists, resulting in victories for Inter Miami. Prior to Messi’s arrival, Miami had been struggling with an 11-game winless streak. Despite being 36 years old, Messi continues to dominate the game, leading Argentina to a World Cup victory and helping PSG secure back-to-back French league championships before joining Inter Miami. As a result, he is the clear favorite to win the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time, solidifying his status as one of the greatest players in soccer history.
