Apple rolls out macOS Sonoma 14.1, here’s what’s new

Apple has released macOS Sonoma 14.1, the first major update to its new operating system. The update includes a number of new features and bug fixes.


New features for Mac users

Like on the iPhones, users can now favourite songs, albums, and playlists in the Music app. Favourited items can be easily filtered and accessed in the library.
There’s a new feature that allows users to view the AppleCare+ status of their Mac and connected AirPods in System Settings.This makes it easy to check if your devices are covered and when your coverage expires.
The update also fixes a number of bugs, including an issue that could prevent encrypted external drives from mounting and an issue that could cause the System Services settings within Location Services to reset.


How to update

To update to macOS Sonoma 14.1, open System Settings and click on Software Update. If the update is available, it will be listed under “Updates Available.” Click on the update and then click on “Download and Install.”
macOS Sonoma 14.1 is available for all eligible Macs. The update is free to download and install and here’s a list of compatible devices:

  • iMac 2019 and later
  • iMac Pro
  • MacBook Air 2018 and later
  • MacBook Pro 2018 and later
  • Mac Pro 2019 and later
  • Mac Studio
  • Mac mini 2018 and later

Meanwhile, Apple has announced an event for October 30 where it is expected to unveil new Macs. New models of MacBook Pro and iMacs are expected to be launched. Also, rumours suggest that Apple could unveil the all-new M3 processor at the event. Apple will be hosting a virtual event and for the first time in many years it will be an evening event. Traditionally, Apple has always held events in morning but has made an exception this time.
