Apple Releases First Ever visionOS 1.0.1 Update Ahead of Vision Pro Launch, Possibly With Stability Improvements

Apple recently released iOS 17.3 with significant features and security updates. The company is now making visionOS available, even though the headset is slated to launch on February 2. Apple has released visionOS 1.0.1, which users can update after they receive their Vision Pro deliveries. This is the first official update the headset has received since its announcement last year in June.

Apple has released visionOS 1.0.1 ahead of the Vision Pro launch, but no release notes are available at this stage

If you have pre-ordered the Vision Pro headset, you can update it to visionOS 1.0.1. As mentioned, Apple will launch the Vision Pro on February 2, but some media personnel have received the device early after a January 23 meeting, according to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. This means reviewers or anyone who received the headset before the launch can now update to Apple’s latest visionOS 1.0.1.

The news comes from developer Nicolas Alvarez, but details regarding the update are scarce now, as we can not test the firmware until the headset is available. Furthermore, the company has not publicly released visionOS 1.0.1, which means there are no release notes that detail the list of changes. However, we can speculate by the update’s version number if Apple has introduced any front-facing feature to the mix.

If the latest update were significant, it would have held the visionOS 1.1 version number. However, the latest update is a visionOS 1.0.1 update, which could focus on minor bug fixes and performance enhancements. Apple could publicly release the update at launch alongside the release notes. The day-one update for lucky customers would feature release notes detailing the changes in the update. This also entails that the Vision Pro headset will be available with visionOS 1.0 installed out of the box.

As mentioned, it is too early to speculate what the latest update has in store for users. Alvarez also shares that the visionOS 1.0.1 update features the build number 21N311. The Vision Pro will launch with a handful of features at launch, which the company announced at its WWDC 2023 event. However, in June, Apple will share significant feature upgrades for the Vision Pro at its WWDC 2024 event with visionOS 2.0. The update will be available later this year alongside the iPhone 16 lineup.

Vision Pro is the company’s state-of-the-art headset built around augmented reality and spatial computing. How the industry responds to Vision Pro remains to be seen. We will share detailed guides on visionOS and the company’s Vision Pro headset as soon as further details are available.
