Anticipating Syril and Dedra: What Can We Expect?

Andor, the universally beloved series, is set to return next summer, offering the completion of the backstory of one of the galaxy’s most noble heroes, Cassian (played by Diego Luna). As the central figure in the galactic wars, Cassian’s missions drew interest from both sides. Among his notable enemies were Syril Karn (played by Kyle Soller) and Dedra Meero (played by Denise Gough). In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Soller shared insights into his character’s journey in the upcoming episodes:

There’s a year gap before we even start season 2. So these characters have progressed so much from when we last saw them. And then each character does have about three different versions that they wind up continuing to grow through and towards.

Syril is on a journey to reach the upper echelons with the Bureau of Standards. And I’m curious to see what unfolds from that moment at the end of season 1.

When Syril was introduced in the first season, he was a member of the Empire, determined to impress his superiors and elevate his position. However, his motivation turned into an obsession with finding Cassian Andor after Cassian’s initial escape. Syril’s inability to capture Cassian led to growing paranoia and temporary job loss, forcing him to live with his mother.

On the other hand, Dedra faced different challenges within her division, where several individuals sought to sabotage her. Her boss, Major Partagaz (played by Anton Lesser), dismissed her ideas about the coordinated attacks on the Empire and the presence of a secret organization planning its downfall. In the aftermath of season 1, Dedra finds herself in a difficult position after receiving assistance from Syril. Gough shares what we can expect from her character in the second installment:

The repercussions of the riot will force her to navigate the aftermath. At the end of season one, she is at her weakest. She continues her journey to establish order in the world.

Andor Will Tie Directly Into Rogue One

Unlike the straightforward narrative of the first season, the upcoming episodes will cover the four-year gap between the end of season 1 and the beginning of Rogue One. Showrunner Tony Gilroy revealed that each block of three episodes will correspond to a year of character development, culminating in the twelfth chapter. The second season will also feature the return of Genevieve O’Reilly and Andy Serkis, expanding on the narratives established in the first season.
