Amy Schumer was originally cast to play the lead role in the upcoming live-action Barbie movie, but creative differences led to her departure from the project. The role eventually went to Margot Robbie, who will now star in the larger-than-life cinematic venture. However, Schumer expressed that the movie “looks very feminist and cool,” and that she plans on watching it.
During an interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, the comedian explained that the filmmakers were not interested in making the movie in the same way that she was. Despite this setback, Schumer has no hard feelings and is looking forward to watching the film as a feminist treat.
Although Schumer has not played the role of Barbie, she enjoys a successful career in Hollywood. She even joked that she was not “thin enough” to play the iconic character. Nonetheless, her willingness to watch the movie despite departing from the project is a positive sign.
Barbie is set to release in theaters on the same day as Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated Oppenheimer, July 21.
