AMD Ryzen CPUs experience up to 40% increased FPS with community fix for Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 and AMD Ryzen CPUs have had a less than ideal relationship. The game’s performance has been rocky with various gaming PC hardware. Unfortunately, the recent patch for Cyberpunk 2077 aimed at improving AMD processors still falls short for 8, 12, and 16-core CPUs. But don’t worry, there is a community fix that actually solves the problem.

Last week, we reported that a Cyberpunk 2077 update finally fixes the stuttering bug on AMD CPUs. However, it turns out there is a long-standing issue with AMD Ryzen processors that prevents gamers from fully utilizing their hardware. Back on December 19, 2020, CD Projekt Red issued a hotfix to address SMT thread utilization, but it only targeted 4-core and 6-core processors, leaving out the “8-core, 12-core, and 16-core processors… behaving as intended.”

Well, according to research by PC Games Hardware, higher core CPUs are still not working as intended. The problem with SMT threads persists in 8-core and above processors, but it can be fixed by making a small modification to the game’s executable file. This change can actually boost your fps by up to 40%.

PC Games Hardware states, “The image on the left shows the current state of the game, version 1.63. The image on the right was created with the Ryzen Fix. To do this, the game’s executable file was modified using the HEX editor. Only then are the SMT threads properly addressed. Note how the clock frequency drops slightly, the package power increases, and we already have 11 more fps from the start.”
