Activision’s $69 Billion Takeover Blocked by UK Regulator, Microsoft Challenging the Decision

Microsoft is not giving up on its $69 billion takeover bid for Activision Blizzard, as it challenges Britain’s decision to block the deal. The country’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) rejected the acquisition in April, citing concerns about the potential impact on competition in the emerging cloud gaming sector. Microsoft maintains that the CMA’s assessment of its cloud gaming capabilities was flawed and made fundamental errors in its market share calculations. Microsoft is presenting five grounds for appeal to the Competition Appeal Tribunal. In the US, Microsoft cleared a potential hurdle in the form of a lawsuit against it by gamers seeking to block the acquisition, with district judge Jacqueline Scott Corley ruling that the plaintiffs had not established irreparable harm from the proposed deal.
